Someone said the other day “My partner and I are like spiritual sandpaper for each other.” What a great way of looking at our differences, our inevitable moments of “huh? you think/feel/want what?” We grow each other wherever we rub together if we are willing to be grown. The joy is not in trying to make the other person over in our own image, but see what is available in every interaction. In these moments we have the opportunity to look within ourselves to see what’s being activated or to be stretched into someplace new or to practice a new way of being, speaking or behaving. Every time some of our edges, projections, false expectations, defenses, and neediness are smoothed over and rubbed off. Spiritual Sandpaper! Are you up for it?
