Tools for Transformation

Creating a great life is more like playing a game than strategic planning. Transforming our life into joy, belonging, inner peace, and a sense of purpose is more like creating a piece of art than solving a problem. We begin to transform our life by exploring the quality and the experience we desire in a particular area of life. Exploring whether we want to experience freedom, belonging, self-expression or fulfillment is a little like asking what colors we want to paint with or what kind of game we want to play.

Being open to transformation turns our life into a series of open experiments and crazy possibilities. Now, we are engaged in the Game of Life. Remember as a kid how much imagination you had, how much make believe you enjoyed, and how good you were at pretending? This is the beginning of your transformation process. The first tool for transformation is our ability to imagine – imagine something different than we are currently experiencing.

The more real we can make what we are imagining, the more possibilities we have for it to come into being.  This means believing what we imagine is the second tool of transformation. Do you believe you can be happy, or do you secretly doubt it’s possible? Can you imagine yourself in a truly safe, loving, mutually supportive relationship, or do you truthfully doubt yourself or others?  Is it easier to believe that things are going to hell in a handbasket or can you believe in the world that works for everyone? Believing is what makes what we imagine into something the Universal Power can use to create with.

The third tool for transformation is trust! Learning the rules of the game – how the Law works. Spirit is always Love and the Universe is operating in our favor is the first step. Then we work with the rules and let them take us where we want to go. Trusting the process is like the giddy sense of sliding down the slide or diving off the high dive. The rush of letting go and trusting the process ends in the joy of having experienced ourselves as joyous and free.

Imagination, Believing and Trust – Tools to transform a life into one that is fulfilling and meaningful.  In support of our exploration and experimentation, we are reading a classic The Game of Life by Florence Scovel Shinn. A fun, deceptively powerful little book that just might change your life. Let’s play the game in August together!
